Sports Physiotherapy

At ProSports Injury Clinic all of our physiotherapists have completed a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy. This means that as well as extensive knowledge in management of a broad range of injuries, disease and illnesses through our undergraduate training, we also specialise in sporting injuries including best practice in diagnosis, management (including onward referral as needed), rehabilitation and prevention.

Our physiotherapists will address your current concern/injury, explain the diagnosis to you clearly, the potential need for onward referral and create a treatment plan. We have a wide variety of referral partners; Sports Physicians, Consultants, Nutritionists, Podiatrists and Sports/Clinical Psychologists among many others, with whom we work closely to ensure all your needs are met and goals achieved.

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage uses a range of techniques to address issues such as aches, pains, sports injuries and headaches. Techniques may include deep-tissue massage, trigger-point therapy, myofascial release, and cupping.

At ProSports Injury Clinic our sports physiotherapists and remedial massage therapists work closely together to achieve the required outcomes for our clients. We often cross referral for our clients within the clinic depending on the injury management plan created for you by your therapist.

Adolescent Health

We have a very special interest in adolescent health at ProSports Injury Clinic. These are the foundation years for developing great health practices, forming coping techniques and strategies which will develop into adult hood, learning their chosen sport and even beginning to pursue the dream of becoming a professional athlete.

Often, adolescents play sports daily, be it a singular chosen sport or across various sporting codes, meaning their overall physical load can be very high.

This, combined with the unique physical, emotional and psychological development of each adolescent, may expose them to risk of injury or illness. We work closely with the families and coaching staff of our adolescent clients to identify factors that may contribute to the risk of injury or poor health and create and implement strategies to mitigate these risks.

Musculoskeletal Screening home page.jpg

Musculoskeletal Screening

What is a musculoskeletal screening?
Musculoskeletal screenings allow physiotherapists to assess posture, range of motions of joints, soft tissue flexibility, and functional movement patterns to identify areas of dysfunction or asymmetry which may leave you susceptible to injury. As well as identifying possible areas of injury concerns and tightness, these assessments can assist in correcting any dysfunctions and in maximising performance.

At ProSports Injury Clinic we have developed many sport specific screening processes which are also targeted to either adolescent or adult health. Having a screening done at a young age gives us a good baseline level where we can monitor your children’s risk factors for injury as they progress intensity and volume of play whilst experiencing rapid growth. As an adult, the screening process can identify key areas where changes may be needed in your preparation and execution of your chosen sport. We understand that every single body is different and we will prescribe advice on self-management and a rehabilitation or prevention exercise program to assist you in achieving your dreams.

Tennis

Tennis is a unique sport that combines strength, power, balance, endurance and agility of the whole body. Efficient on-court movement and shot accuracy is imperative in order to succeed in tennis at whatever level you like to play.

Clinically we have expertise in the diagnosis and management of tennis injuries, which differ depending on your age and playing ability. Load management, growth, technique, and equipment are all factors taken into account to improve efficiency and minimise injury risk.

Along with hands on treatment we prescribe tennis specific rehabilitation or prevention programs, tennis screenings, load management, equipment and technique review in conjunction with your coach.

Running

From beginners and recreational runners through to sub-elite and elite competitors, we work with all levels of runners. While there is no “perfect” running technique, we work with runners to optimise their own mechanics to improve efficiency and performance while minimising injury risk.

Load management strategies are imperative in running to both improve performance and reduce injury risk. We also work with runners to improve their foot and ankle function, as this is a key component of running and one that is often neglected.

Clinically, we use a combination of load management, hands on treatment, exercise prescription and running technique retraining.

Cycling

Bike Fitting is about fitting the bike to the person and their riding. We always complete a comprehensive assessment that includes a discussion about the cyclist, their current riding and cycling goals, injury history and a thorough physical examination. We then spend time working through the different components of the bike, optimising power output from the legs, trunk and arm position and overall rider comfort.

No two bike fits are the same and it is both a challenge and a source of great enjoyment to work with a cyclist to improve their riding position and comfort. Unfortunately, pain while riding is a frequent occurrence for some cyclists and a Bike Fit can often be the thing that resolves the issue.

We also work with cyclists to maximise efficiency in the pedal stroke. We create an exercise programs to improve strength, movement control and movement patterns as required, including pedalling drills.

Swimming

Swimming is a popular non-impact sport with a relatively low risk of injury. The most common swimming injury, by far, that we see in swimmers of all levels is an overuse injury of the shoulder also known as ‘swimmers shoulder’. We also, however, see overuse injuries of the knee (breaststrokers knee). There are many other injuries that may occur due to overloading, musculoskeletal limitations, and changing technique.

We work initially to resolve your injury and also create swimming specific rehabilitation or preventative programs. We also work with swimmers and their coaches to maximise speed and efficiency through technique review, assessing musculoskeletal limitations and load management.

Hockey

Hockey requires high levels of fitness, strength and movement control. Trunk and pelvic control are key elements of optimal physical performance in hockey with injuries most commonly occurring in the lower back, hamstring and groin. Ankle sprains, wrist pain and any running related issues are other common hockey related injuries.

We work with hockey players to rehab current injuries, prevent future injuries and improve on field physical performance. Having been involved with recreational and high-level hockey over a long period of time, we have a strong understanding of the game, the unique physical demands of individual skills such as dragflicking and the specific rehab required to return to playing hockey.

We use a combination of hands-on treatment, exercise programming, training/competition load management and return to sport testing to make sure hockey players are performing at their best.
